Vocational training and employment prospects in Syria: needs, initiatives and opportunities for cooperation with the diaspora
On 7 September 2026 (5:00-6:30 pm CEST), the Platform “A New Beginning for Syria” and the GIZ project “TVET and Employment in Syria (STEP)” – funded by the BMZ, the EU and the SDC – are organising an online event on vocational training, labour market-oriented skills development and employment promotion in Syria. The aim of the event is to facilitate an initial structured exchange with relevant diaspora stakeholders.
The event will focus on the activities of the GIZ STEP project, current needs in selected sectors and regions, and experiences and initiatives from the Syrian diaspora. It will highlight areas where diaspora stakeholders can contribute with specialist knowledge, business contacts, training experience or digital matching tools. It aims to facilitate networking among participants with a view to forming diaspora initiatives and enterprises.
The event will be held in German and Arabic. It is primarily aimed at professionals, entrepreneurs and associations from the Syrian diaspora with ongoing or planned activities in the fields of training, skills development and the placement of skilled workers in Syria.
